The tide continues to turn in favor of the rebellion in Syria this week. After successfully assassinating three top security officials on Wednesday, rebel forces seized all four border crossings with Iraq and one into Turkey on Thursday. Meanwhile, the U.N. security council remains deadlocked over a resolution to punish Syria with economic sanctions, with Russia and China vetoing the measure for the third time.
14 Killed In Colorado Theater Shooting
At least 50 are injured and 14 are dead after a gunman opened fire in front of a crowded suburban Denver movie theater early Friday morning as people gathered to see the latest Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises." Police have the suspect in custody, but have not released his name nor any motive for the attack. Witnesses reported seeing gas before the gunman opened fire, and the area was searched for explosives.
Mississippi River Near Record Lows Due To Drought

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will spend nearly $7 million dredging the river in an effort to keep the river and its ports open for commercial traffic in the coming weeks. Just last year the Mississippi came within one foot of its record high due to massive flooding.
